Hajo's Irish Pub

Ól, ceol agus craic!

A small piece of Ireland in Rüdesheim am Rhein! German, international and Irish draught beers, cider and Irish whiskey as well as live music are standard fare in our Irish pub. In addition to St. Patrick's Day, which we celebrate every year, there is a fun and easy-going atmosphere here all year round.  Football is part of the experience. We show Bundesliga, Champions League, Europa League as well as WM and EM games on our big screen. In summer, you can relax outside on original Guinness barrels. Pass by and check us out! You can spend a cosy evening with friends here, come to one of our concerts, take part in the pub quiz or join our Irish folk singalong with a freshly tapped Guinness. Céad míle Fáilte!

It says Hajo's on it, and it is Hajo who is in it

Behind the counter, Hayo is definitely a character. Open-minded, good-hearted, with both feet firmly rooted in Rüdesheim. Hayo gets actively involved – no matter whether helping with carnival, local politics or various associations. He has plenty of stories in stock, which he likes to share with his guests. He has also established his passion, hand-made live music, here. Posters throughout the building bear witness to the numerous musical events that have taken place here or, as Hajo puts it, "are evidence of his efforts to import culture into RÜD." Years ago he visited Ireland for the first time, and a shamrock heart has been beating in his chest ever since. Although he is an "old hand" on the Rüdesheim gastronomic scene, his team keeps him young.

Bound by tradition

After the success of Gnoom, on 8 May 1983, Hajo opened Hajo´s Bierakademie in the guest lounges of his parents’ hotel. Here, guests could acquire a beer doctorate, among other things. With live music, football & draught Guinness, it already met all of the requirements for an Irish pub. So, after travelling to Ireland for the first time in 2001, Hajo renamed his Bierakademie in 2008, and it has been called the Irish Pub ever since. It added Irish flair to the establishment, which prompted Hajo to change the hotel’s name to the Germania lodge.

Gnoom

Since 1975 – and still rocking on!

For over 40 years now, the Gnoom has been the port of call and home for rockers, metalheads and punks, but also for lovers of ska, soul and handmade, honest music. Rock icons adorn our walls, with some potential future rock legends standing at and behind the bar.

No matter whether you fancy a "Geiß-Maß" beer mix, shot or cold beer, this is where you come to cultivate old friendships or find new friends. Because everyone is welcome to come and dance through the night to the music of DJs Hajo, Völle, Schrollo, Andi or Flo. And we mean that literally, because as others start closing down for the day, we’re only just getting going! Open on Saturdays from 11 pm into the morning hours. Have you heard enough? See U

Born in Holland, at home in Rüdesheim

1975. Eight friends spend their holidays in Zandvoort in the Netherlands and stay out late boozing in "Gnoom", a pub with loud rock music and an open-minded atmosphere.

Back home, Hajo decided that Rüdesheim was missing a pub of this kind. So he took over the Germania cellar and turned it into a fun pub, one of a kind. It became home to the legendary Gnoomtown chiefs and achieved unparalleled fame for its atmospherre during football tournaments and carnival sessions. Thanks to the chiefs, its anything-but-mainstream music, and its youth-centre feel, the Gnoom (Dutch for gnome) became a cult pub, known way beyond the borders of the Rheingau area. Generations of locals have partied through the nights there ever since.

Gnoom-ish nights in Rüdesheim on the Rhine

Our door is probably the most-photographed door in Rüdesheim, because it features our mascot, a little gnome. And this gnome has seen many guests come and go. Both local youths and tourists have been coming to the cellar for decades to listen to the beat of many different variations of rock music. The music lovers serving behind the bar and providing music and cold drinks all grew up here. You could say – they started their careers as regular guests before becoming our DJs. Quite a few of those who curiously stuck their heads around the door became guests. And when the door opens, you are always surprised how bright it has become outside. Seems like the gnome is having a lot of fun, right?
