Bingen-Rüdesheimer Fähr- und Schiffahrtsgesellschaft e.G.

Exciting boat trips along the most beautiful part of the Middle Rhine Valley!

In addition to visiting a host of magnificent castles and picturesque villages, you can treat yourself to a trip on one of our spacious and comfortable ships during your stay in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a World Heritage site. Our daily trips offer very diverse experiences, catering to a range of intersts: leisurely trips to the Loreley, a glass of wine in Bacharach or a more active option with the Ring Ticket around the Niederwald monument. You are in for a treat with us! And, of course, our on-board gastronomy will give you the perfect holiday feeling with culinary delights from our chef or great wines from the wine cellar – come on board, we look forward to seeing you!

Traditional company on the Middle Rhine for more than 80 years

Our company employs very diverse people, both on land and on board: ranging from the captain behind the wheel and sailors pulling in the ropes to the chef of our nautical kitchen and the 24/7 ticket salesmen who work in many places along the Upper Middle Rhine Valley as well as our dedicated, weather-tested ferry staff and hard-working accountants in the office. More than 60 employees working in a wide variety of positions put their hearts and souls into making sure that you enjoy your time on board with us – that is our calling!

A ferry named after a pop singer, kings and celebrities as guests on the Rhine!

It all started with a small boat that travelled from Bingen to Rüdesheim and back. Fourteen seamen work for the company, whose  origins are steeped in tradition. Seamen have connected the right and left banks of the Rhine, today and in the past, preserving the charm of the Rhine right up to the present day.
Indeed, even kings have enjoyed trips aboard our fleet. Since 2017, a ferry named after "Mary Roos", a famous pop singer from Bingen, has connected the banks of this truly legendary river.

Seppel and Liesel

Mini-trains typically offer tours in the most beautiful spots! And, of course, this stunning landscape in the Middle Rhine Valley is no exception, as its founders Josef (Seppel) and Elisabeth (Liesel) Bertram realized. The aim has always been to show visitors our beautiful little town from a completely new perspective and also to give them some interesting facts about the region. In the past, the tour was given live over a microphone. Today, it is available digitally in 15 languages. Since 1978, the Rüdesheim Winzerexpress has wound its way through the streets, alleyways and narrow lanes of Rüdesheim.

Ellen & Maike will give you a warm welcome and be there to assist and advise you on what to do in our beautiful region. Enjoy the family-like atmosphere in our hotel.
We look forward to your visit!

From Riesling to Rose

The roots of our hotel business can be traced back to the Veith Winery which has existed since the 17th century. Josef (Seppel) Bertram loved both the local Rheingau cuisine and wine growing. So he chose to become a chef. After his apprenticeship, he acquired experience cooking in various restaurants in Germany and Switzerland before meeting Liesel. Together, they leased Gasthaus Rheingold in 1966, a restaurant with a boarding house in Rüdesheim, at that time still located in Oberstraße. In 1973 Seppel and Liesel finally fulfilled their dream of opening their own small hotel. They bought a house in Wilhelmstraße and converted it to their linking to create Hotel Rose.

QuerfeldHeim

ErlebnisReich - You will experience something here!

QuerfeldHeim houses 10 newly designed holiday apartments in a central location, making it a perfect holiday home. With the demand for apartments in the old town growing steadily, we purchased an old building and started the QuerfeldHeim project in 2012. We started by completely renovating the house at Christophelstraße 1 and then tested the three very tastefully decorated apartments on the Rüdesheim tourism market. Their success proved us right. In 2015, a new building was then constructed at Oberstraße 32 housing four apartments with wonderful inner courtyard terraces and the unique flair of the old town. In 2017, two more apartments were created in the neighbouring house at Oberstrasse 34 and one apartment at Oberstrasse 52. Get in touch with us: We definitely have the right holiday home for you!

The Climentis

Astrid and Kai Climenti are "genuine" Rüdesheimers and very strongly rooted in the region. They are the third generation running the family business.
Astrid, mother to Kai, has been running the business with a large dose of innovation and even more passion for 30 years.

Kai joined the family business 10 years ago. Before doing so, he trained as a winegrower and worked as a freelancer running an event location, gathering experience which has been useful for setting up the QuerfeldWein and QuerfeldHeim businesses. As your local contact, he is delighted to represent the GUDE virtues of the region.

Simone Schuld started as assistant to the management. Guests at QuerfeldHeim will be looked after by a competent contact person on site.

Former prison from 1806 - 1904

The building in Oberstr. 30 was a prison that housed tax evaders from 1806 to 1912. When the cable car opened in 1954, it became a prime location in the heart of the old town. Back then, the "Zur Talstation" restaurant originally opened there.

At the beginning of 1997, the restaurant was given a facelift and renamed "Bollesje" (word for prison in Hessian dialect). The "QuerfeldWein” Vinothek, a wine boutique, was added in 2009. It is located in the former stable in the building’s inner courtyard.

After the building at Oberstr. 32 was demolished, a completely new building – "Erlebnis-Reich” – housing three shops and four holiday apartments, named "QuerfeldHeim", was constructed.

Darwin's Daughter

A place for searching, finding and discovering

DARWIN'S DAUGHTER is the ideal destination for all travellers looking for something special. If you go treasure hunting in the shop, you are guaranteed to find what you want – no matter whether you are looking for good friends, your loved ones back at home or for yourself. The shop offers a variety of things – big and small, beautiful and fine, individual and exclusive – all waiting to be discovered. DARWIN'S DAUGHTER at Rheinstraße 11 is a treasure trove with plenty to offer, from delicate design objects to selected home accessories and stylish fashion items. Who can resist it?

Sanja and Bato – the guardians of beautiful treasures

In the world of beautiful things, Sanja and Bato, a couple and business partners who have a feel and passion for anything special, always stay on the right track. Before an item is added to the beautiful collection at DARWIN'S DAUGHTER, it has to be discovered, critically considered and, ultimately,  deemed to be sufficiently special by the couple. And this is something that Sanja and Bato are really proud of in their very successful shop.

DARWIN'S DAUGHTER on an exciting voyage

All of Darwin's voyages were about discovery. Like DARWIN'S DAUGHTER, too. But completely different discoveries. While the famous father did research, observed nature and collected exhibits in order to develop great theories, his little daughter travelled and discovered the world with open eyes, enjoying places and moments, and being surprised by everything and anything beautiful. Fine fabrics, gorgeous jewellery, delicate bowls, artfully crafted furniture – all of which were so much more exciting than her father's dried beetles and preparations. But, best of all, her suitcases were also so much bigger and filled with surprises when she finally landed here …

ArtCafé

Braumstriezel manufacture & art exhibition

The small ArtCafé in Drosselgasse is a jewel. It exudes the flair of the olde worlde: music for your soul, top-quality wine for connoisseurs, Rüdesheimer coffee and Baumstriezel, a wonderfully fragrant, freshly baked pastry on a spit for gourmets. Art exhibitions in the café change monthly.

Uwe and Emi’s magical parlour

An artist and a connoisseur meet …

When art and indulgence meet

Six years ago we decided to turn our dreams into. Uwe was looking for the right place to showcase his creative canvases, and Emi loved sharing her long-forgotten pastries with others. So we created an ArtCafé in the middle of Drosselgasse in Rüdesheim.

The Drosselhof

The Drosselhof traditional guest house

... from 1727 to 1928, the only wine tavern and restaurant in Drosselgasse in Rüdesheim. On our cosy terrace, you can enjoy a direct view of Drosselgasse or sit at tables surrounded by historical paintings. We serve exquisite wines from long-standing and well-known wineries from the region and tasty, lovingly prepared dishes. If you feel like it, you can sway to the sounds of our musicians, sing along or even put on your dancing shoes ...

Two generations – the oldest wine tavern and restaurant

Born in Paris, Lydie Roger has lived in Australia and yet has remained true to Rüdesheim am Rhein and "her" tavern since 1970. Working with Sören Kunze, as representative of the younger generation, and an experienced team, we enjoy welcoming guests from near and far ... with a bird sitting permanently on the roof of the tavern – a thrush, the symbol of Drosselgasse.

The historical Drosselhof is the birthplace of Rhineland joviality.

Historically, Drosselgasse provided lodging for Rhine sailors, but from 1860 the Drosselhof developed from a small-scale seasonal wine bar into a fully fledged wine tavern, and was already awarded a star by the Baedecker travel guide which described it as "very popular". The landlord realized that the jovial singalongs in his restaurant were attracting visitors in droves. The singing was so popular with the guests in this sole wine tavern in the alley that in 1883 a song was written especially for the Drosselhof, which has contributed substantially to the fame of Drosselgasse. During the Second World War, in November 1944, a bomb attack left the alley in rubble and ashes – only the Drosselhof was spared!

Caféhaus Engel

From carriages to cakes

Our café has been a perfect place to relax for centuries – indeed, taking a break has always been what our establishment is about.

And that was even the case back in 1841, when businessman Richard Ackermann purchased the building as an outhouse for horse-drawn carriages for his Gasthof ZUM ENGEL. Thus, his guests as well as their coachmen and horses were guaranteed a pleasant stay. And such generous hospitality has remained characteristic of the establishment up to the present day – first as a small-scale seasonal wine bar in the 1930s, then as Weinhaus Engel and today as Café Engel. Always a beautiful and popular meeting place and a great spot to relax.

Rüdesheim and Bato: A dynamic connection

When Bato was "stranded" in Rüdesheim 25 years ago, he immediately realized that he had found his new home.

True to his guiding principle, "you come and have to do something", he started his career in the restaurant business. As coffee lovers, Bato and his wife Sanja soon opened their own café – CAFÉ ENGEL – with which he has succeeded in making a name for himself. The guests love the nostalgic coffee house atmosphere. But, more than anything, it is his warmth and personality that make it so popular. It’s well worth checking it out for yourself …

Rüdesheim and coffee: A wonderful connection, too

It is only one of the numerous highlights in this Rüdesheim Café, but what a highlight: the Rüdesheimer coffee!

CAFÉ ENGEL offers its guests a host of delicacies, starting with its delicious home-made strudel. But it is the fiery "Rüdesheimer coffee” that is particularly popular. It has long since become the hallmark of the café and is an absolute MUST. As a passionate coffee connoisseur, Bato immediately discovered and was thrilled with the uniqueness of this speciality. He celebrates his Rüdesheimer coffee at the tables of numerous guests from all over the world in a very special way. CAFÉ ENGEL is quite simply a small sensation that is well worth a visit – and the best address for a first-class experience!

Gemstone boutique

Gemstone boutique – the power and beauty of natural stones

The small boutique in Drosselgasse sells a very special selection of jewellery, ranging from costume to unique handmade pieces made of precious stones and silver. You will find your own personal favourite stone set in an elegant piece of jewellery here. Whether you buying something for yourself or as a gift, it is guaranteed to be a timeless and unforgettable item. Be inspired by our large selection and personal advice.

Family business with passion

My decision to open the boutique in Drosselgasse was based on my love of jewellery design, the region and the people here. I have always been fascinated by the liveliness and joviality of Drosselgasse. And, although I originally trained to become a lawyer, jewellery is my passion, and my heart belongs in Rüdesheim on the Rhine. I want the people from different nations who visit us daily in Drosselgasse to feel these emotions, too, and take home an unforgettable memory of their visit.

History becomes the present

The power of gemstones has been known for thousands of years and has a rich history in the region. Hildegard of Bingen and the queens and kings of the region already used the power of gemstones. Our family business was founded in the valley of the Middle Rhine in 1995. Traditionally, we have always focused on making gemstone jewellery in various shapes and colours. It is designed to accentuate the beauty of the gemstones and minerals. Today, as in the past, people are fascinated with gemstones and delighted by their beauty.

Hajo's Germania Lodge

Easygoing accommodation at the lodge

We have been providing lodging to guests for generations, but time has not stood still. Our 12 guest rooms are creatively decorated, with plenty of young flair, and are individually furnished (three-star accommodation). You can enjoy a wonderful view of the Rhine from some of the rooms and from the pub. A delicious breakfast buffet, probably the largest "mini" bar in Rüdesheim, a free coffee and tea bar and free WiFi ensure that your stay will be even more enjoyable.

We offer you a package that combines partying and lodging because, after a lively evening in our Irish pub, you only have to climb the stairs to get to your rooms. And if has been a late night, check out isn't until 12:30.

From Aunt Marie to her grandchild Hajo

Hajo’s grandmother, "Aunt Marie", already built up a reputation for her events in Rüdesheim. The very first Schlachtfest, a feast for meat lovers, and carnival event were her ideas. Germania has always been shaped by its people. Hajo's parents, Hans and Betty, lived and breathed the credo “hotel with a heart" and, as a result, their guests returned many times over. With the lodge now managed by Hayo, guests still feel and experience personal contact and family tradition in every corner of the lodge. His sister has created an account of the family history in words and pictures, which is featured both in the drinks menu and the A-Z folder. Many of the guests admire the old pictures.

Bound by tradition

Germania has been family-owned since 1751 and has a chequered history going back many years. In 1882 it was completely destroyed by the great fire in the old town and rebuilt in 1883 for the inauguration of the "Germania" Niederwald monument – hence its name. Bakery, brewery, confectionery, restaurant, guest house – all have been located within these walls. But no matter what, Germania has always been a place where guests from all over the world feel at home and choose to linger. Whether in the Irish pub or the bedrooms, you feel the personal touch of the old family business everywhere.

Since Hajo took over the business from his parents in 1983, he has continued to run it as a unique mix of tradition and modern events in Rüdesheim.

Destroyed by bombs – rebuilt with wine

The "Lindenwirt" opened in 1927. It was the second wine tavern to open in Drosselgasse after the "Drosselhof". The boom in Drosselgasse was originally due to the construction of the Niederwald monument. However, it slowed down considerably during and after the First World War. In the 1920s, an increasing number of guests started returning to Drosselgasse, and more and more innkeepers wanted a piece of the cake. At Whitsun 1949, the hotel and wine tavern "Lindenwirt" reopened, and it is still managed by the Ohlig family, who have now been running it for three generations.

Lady Marleen

Radiant character: LADY MARLEEN

Although a small shop, LADY MARLEEN is the place to go if you’re looking for something charming – you will find some very special lamps here.

The attractive little lamps are what make the shop special. Because at LADY MARLEEN they are not only presented in the best-possible light, but have very charming designs. Each of the “little ladies” is made entirely of wood, hand-painted and produced in limited numbers. The young lady wearing the attractive dress also proves herself to be strong, because she proudly carries her umbrella as a lamp shade in the wind. She is not only extremely elegant, but radiates light, even in stormy times.

Sanja loves Audrey Hepburn and Mary Poppins

... and exclusive accessories, of course. It was only a matter of time until she and the little lady found each other.

Sanja adores looking for beautiful things. Both as a collector and businesswoman, because she and her partner Bato are owners of DARWIN's DAUGHTER and have thus created a place in Rüdesheim where people on the look out for sophisticated accessories are guaranteed success. LADY MARLEEN is now another interesting stop for shoppers, but for people who are romantic or nostalgic and fall for the magic of special things.

A little story about a little lady

The fantastic story of LADY MARLEEN is a short, but almost true love story:

The young lady got dressed up and escaped from her strict governess to meet Cedric, her fiancé, at the pier in Le Havre. At the dead of night and secretly, because unfortunately Cedric – a dashing officer on the Calcutta Line – was not quite in keeping with her rank. It was dark, and suddenly a stiff breeze got up, as the steamer finally arrived after a long wait. Fortunately for the lovers, little LADY MARLEEN’s fluttering dress with her bright umbrella could be seen from far away. A brightly glowing light, a rendezvous, happiness à deux …

The Niederwald monument and cable car – a story in itself

The 38-meter-high Niederwald monument with Germania was built to commemorate the Franco-German War of 1870/71 and the re-establishment of the German Empire in the years 1877 - 1883, laying the foundations for modern tourism in Rüdesheim am Rhein.

To accommodate the numerous visitors, a rack-and-pinion railway was built in 1884 as the forerunner of today's cable car, which was opened in April 1954. In its anniversary year in 2004, it welcomed its 30 millionth passenger.

Since 2005, the visitors have hovered up above the vines in new, more comfortable cabins, taking the same route with the newly constructed system.

Family Breuer & the cheerful castle team

The Rüdesheimer Schloss has been a family business for three generations. Founded by Georg Breuer at the beginning of the 1950s, Susanne & Heinrich Breuer made the wine hotel and wine restaurant what it is today. A pearl in the middle of Drosselgasse! With much time, vision and – above all – love, they turned the former wine tavern into their very personal castle. Their daughter Maresa, who took over the business in 2015, grew up right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Drosselgasse. The castle’s staff is part of the family and has been working here for many years. The guests are always the centre of attention for all of us.

290 years’ old & still young

The Rüdesheimer Schloss has a history rich in tradition & has experienced many exciting stories! From the very beginning, it was a place steeped in history right in the heart of Rüdesheim's old town. Built in 1729 by the Archbishop of Mainz as a manor where tithes were received, the property changed hands to the King of Prussia & later to the Duke of Nassau. Almost completely destroyed in World War II, it was rebuilt in 1952 as a wine tavern by Georg Breuer & has thus always been right in the middle of the lively hustle and bustle in Drosselgasse. In 1993 it was converted into a wine hotel, a milestone in the history of the castle. Today, as in the past, it is the experiences & encounters with our guests that make the Rüdesheimer Schloss Hoel very special.

Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet

Culture and technology in a historical context

Surprisingly, one of the largest museums of data-driven musical instruments in Europe is located at the end of Drosselgasse – in Brömserhof.
Travel back into the times before radio, CDs and MP3s were around and learn about the origins of music technology.

Mechanical musical instruments are a feast for the eyes. But the real appeal of the instruments is when they start playing.

Which is why we only show playing instruments in the museum. And it is only possible to see them playing by taking part in a guided tour. A tour offered in 9 languages! Tour length: approx. 45 minutes Please book in advance.

Siegfried Wendel's vision has now been pursued for three generations.

Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet has been a family business for three generations. Founded in 1969 in Hochheim am Main by Siegfried Wendel, the collection was moved to Brömserhof in Rüdesheim am Rhein in 1975.

After the death of Siegfried Wendel on 10 October 2016, his son Jens took over the day-to-day business. Today, his children – the third generation of Wendels – are already working in the family business. Their dedication guarantees visitors at Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet an unforgettable experience, taking them on a journey back in time.

Your ears will be all eyes

This catchy saying best describes the experience in Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet. You will see exceptionally finely crafted orchestrions, organs, music boxes and much more. Anyone who has never experienced an orchestrion live cannot imagine how overwhelming it is to experience such a marvel of technology. What is certain is that you can experience a large selection live, ranging from the most filigree musical clock to the very heavy orchestrion. Immerse yourself in the world of data-driven musical instruments.

Cosy ambience
German cuisine

Seats 200 people ( 150 indoors and 50 outdoors )

Live music and dancing

The restaurant is named after Hannelore Behrens.

Hans and Hannelore Behrens opened "Bei Hannelore" in 1954. Hans Georg and Ulli, together with Lydie and Sabine, took over the business in 1994 and continue to run it in the same spirit as their parents.

Since 2013, Ulli and Sabine have been responsible for the business, actively supported by their sons Sascha and Marcel.

Families with children, companies, bowling clubs, associations ...

Köpes, the so-called "King of Drosselgasse", returned to "Bei Hannelore” every year, together with his friends from the board of a football club.

And during each of “Schimmy’s” frequent visits with business partners from all over the world, he said that he finally felt "at home" again with us.

Fullmoon: A doctor from Seligenstadt was always drunk.

Gasthaus Winzerkeller

Gasthaus Winzerkeller – the 400-year-old Mang'sche house

Built in 1609, the historical Winzerkeller is located right at the heart of the old town of Rüdesheim at the top of Drosselgasse and is well worth a visit both in summer and winter. Spend a few carefree hours on our sunlit terrace decorated with flowers in summer, and enjoy our regional German cuisine with a glass of delicious Rheingau Riesling. For the Christmas market, we transform our establishment into an American Christmas house, adorning it with 1,000 lights. You can either warm up inside in our festively decorated restaurant with its rustic vaulted cellar, eat a delicious big bratwurst from the charcoal grill on our terrace or linger at our American stand in front of the building.

You are served by the boss in person here

As a trained restaurant specialist from Kassel, I moved to the beautiful town of Rüdesheim am Rhein in 2005, where I gathered experience at Rüdesheimer Schloss for three years before switching to the wine cellar in 2008. In 2010, my wife Donata and I were honoured to take over Mrs Christ-Maier’s traditional inn, thus continuing a 60-year-old family tradition. As the owner, it is very important to me to be close to my guests and therefore my service team and I personally take care of your well-being. As a father of two children, I particularly enjoy welcoming families with children. Thanks to our children's corner, parents can enjoy their meals in peace while the little ones let off steam.

The challenge of continuing a traditional family business

We feel completely at home in the old Mang´sche house, named after the winegrower Johann Mang. Built in the year I609 as the east wing of the Brömserhof by Messrs Brömser of Rüdesheim, it was owned by the winegrower Johann Mang from 1836. In the 1950s the Christ family bought the historic building and converted it into a wine restaurant with a rustic vaulted cellar. In 2010, after many years of dedication, Mrs Christ-Maier retired and gave me the opportunity to continue her family business. In the meantime, we have been running it for ten seasons. With the support of the inn’s permanent team, we continue to run it traditionally, in the same spirit as Mrs Christ-Maier and are still grateful to her today for the opportunity and trust she placed in us.

Hajo's Irish Pub

Ól, ceol agus craic!

A small piece of Ireland in Rüdesheim am Rhein! German, international and Irish draught beers, cider and Irish whiskey as well as live music are standard fare in our Irish pub. In addition to St. Patrick's Day, which we celebrate every year, there is a fun and easy-going atmosphere here all year round.  Football is part of the experience. We show Bundesliga, Champions League, Europa League as well as WM and EM games on our big screen. In summer, you can relax outside on original Guinness barrels. Pass by and check us out! You can spend a cosy evening with friends here, come to one of our concerts, take part in the pub quiz or join our Irish folk singalong with a freshly tapped Guinness. Céad míle Fáilte!

It says Hajo's on it, and it is Hajo who is in it

Behind the counter, Hayo is definitely a character. Open-minded, good-hearted, with both feet firmly rooted in Rüdesheim. Hayo gets actively involved – no matter whether helping with carnival, local politics or various associations. He has plenty of stories in stock, which he likes to share with his guests. He has also established his passion, hand-made live music, here. Posters throughout the building bear witness to the numerous musical events that have taken place here or, as Hajo puts it, "are evidence of his efforts to import culture into RÜD." Years ago he visited Ireland for the first time, and a shamrock heart has been beating in his chest ever since. Although he is an "old hand" on the Rüdesheim gastronomic scene, his team keeps him young.

Bound by tradition

After the success of Gnoom, on 8 May 1983, Hajo opened Hajo´s Bierakademie in the guest lounges of his parents’ hotel. Here, guests could acquire a beer doctorate, among other things. With live music, football & draught Guinness, it already met all of the requirements for an Irish pub. So, after travelling to Ireland for the first time in 2001, Hajo renamed his Bierakademie in 2008, and it has been called the Irish Pub ever since. It added Irish flair to the establishment, which prompted Hajo to change the hotel’s name to the Germania lodge.

Breuer's Rüdesheimer Schloss | Weingasthaus

This is where the music is ...

Our traditional wine restaurant is made up of cosy wine taverns, a sunny conservatory and the romantic castle garden. Numerous guests from Rüdesheim and the whole world meet here for merry festivities, cosy summer evenings and stimulating conversations over a glass of wine. Enjoy this special atmosphere alone, with your partner, family, friends, or with colleagues from work and members of your club. We play music daily from Easter to Christmas. Our castle band plays the piano, saxophone, clarinet and violin. You are invited to listen, sing along and dance.

A strong team

Our guests appreciate us as hosts & as a family-run business, always present to help them. Susanne Breuer, the warm-hearted hostess & flower queen. Heinrich Breuer, a tranquil character & treasurer of over 350 rare Rheingau wines from three centuries & Maresa Nieten, who adds a breath of fresh air to the castle. The cheerful and enthusiastic castle team of 50 employees is particularly popular with guests. The focus is on regional & in-house specialities, fresh products, Rieslings & Pinot Noirs from the GEORG BREUER Winery.

There is a lime tree in the garden of Rüdesheimer Schloss …

... is the name of the famous hit from the 1920s, which was dedicated to the wine tavern at its opening. Since 1929, a lime tree has grown at the heart of our romantic castle garden, a wonderful witness to everything that has taken place there. The tree probably has many stories it could tell us. Stories about those that met under the lime tree, got to know each other, kissed, danced & clinked their glasses filled with Rüdesheim Riesling again and again: It knows what happened!

The Drosselhof | Vinothek

Vinothek in the Drosselhof – high-quality wines from the region

....especially from the Rheingau premium-quality VDP vineyards, such as Schloss Vollrads or Schloss Johannisberg. You can purchase fine wines at this central location during your visit to Rüdesheim am Rhein. Our rich and fruity Auslese and Beerenauslese vintage wines as well as Eisweins are also popular with our customers. We also provide a shipping service.

Two generations – the oldest wine tavern and restaurant

Born in Paris, Lydie Roger lived in Australia and yet has remained true to Rüdesheim am Rhein and "her" tavern since 1970. Working with Sören Kunze, as representative  of the younger generation, and the experienced team, we enjoy welcoming guests from near and far ... together with a bird sitting permanently on the roof of the tavern – our thrush, the symbol of Drosselgasse.

The historical Drosselhof is the birthplace of Rhineland joviality.

Historically, Drosselgasse only provided lodging for Rhine sailors, but from 1860 the Drosselhof developed from a small-scale seasonal wine bar into a fully fledged wine tavern, and was already awarded a star by the Baedecker travel guide which described it as "very popular". The landlord knew that the jovial singalong in his restaurant was attracting visitors in droves. The singing was so popular with the guests in this sole wine tavern in the alley that in 1883 a song was written especially for the Drosselhof, contributing substantially to the fame of Drosselgasse. During the Second World War, in November 1944, a bomb attack left the alley in rubble and ashes – only the Drosselhof was spared!

QuerfeldWein

ErlebnisReich – You will experience something here

QuerfeldWein offers great tours of the vineyards in addition to its Vinothek. As it is ideally located opposite the cable car, the tours start with a ride over the top of the vines. On their walk back through the vineyards of Rüdesheim, the guests enjoy a glass of Riesling at a beautiful panoramic viewpoint and learn everything they need to know about the Rhine-Main region.

The Climentis

Astrid and Kai Climenti are "genuine" Rüdesheimers and very strongly rooted in the region. They are the third generation running the family business.<br /> Astrid, mother to Kai, has been running the business with a large dose of innovation and even more passion for 30 years.

Kai joined the family business 10 years ago. Before doing so, he trained as a winegrower and worked as a freelancer running an event location, gathering experience which has been useful for setting up the QuerfeldWein and QuerfeldHeim businesses. As your local contact, he is delighted to represent the virtues of the region.

Simone Schuld started as assistant to the management. Guests at QuerfeldHeim are looked after by a competent contact person on site.

Former prison from 1806 - 1904

At the beginning of 1997, the restaurant was given a facelift and renamed "Bollesje" (word for prison in Hessian dialect). The "QuerfeldWein” Vinothek, a wine boutique, was added in 2009. It is located in the former stable in the building’s inner courtyard.

The building at Oberstr. 30 was a prison that housed tax evaders from 1806 to 1912. When the cable car opened in 1954,  it became a prime location in the heart of the old town. Back then, the "Zur Talstation" restaurant was set up there.

Gnoom

Since 1975 – and still rocking on!

For over 40 years now, the Gnoom has been the port of call and home for rockers, metalheads and punks, but also for lovers of ska, soul and handmade, honest music. Rock icons adorn our walls, with some potential future rock legends standing at and behind the bar.

No matter whether you fancy a "Geiß-Maß" beer mix, shot or cold beer, this is where you come to cultivate old friendships or find new friends. Because everyone is welcome to come and dance through the night to the music of DJs Hajo, Völle, Schrollo, Andi or Flo. And we mean that literally, because as others start closing down for the day, we’re only just getting going! Open on Saturdays from 11 pm into the morning hours. Have you heard enough? See U

Born in Holland, at home in Rüdesheim

1975. Eight friends spend their holidays in Zandvoort in the Netherlands and stay out late boozing in "Gnoom", a pub with loud rock music and an open-minded atmosphere.

Back home, Hajo decided that Rüdesheim was missing a pub of this kind. So he took over the Germania cellar and turned it into a fun pub, one of a kind. It became home to the legendary Gnoomtown chiefs and achieved unparalleled fame for its atmospherre during football tournaments and carnival sessions. Thanks to the chiefs, its anything-but-mainstream music, and its youth-centre feel, the Gnoom (Dutch for gnome) became a cult pub, known way beyond the borders of the Rheingau area. Generations of locals have partied through the nights there ever since.

Gnoom-ish nights in Rüdesheim on the Rhine

Our door is probably the most-photographed door in Rüdesheim, because it features our mascot, a little gnome. And this gnome has seen many guests come and go. Both local youths and tourists have been coming to the cellar for decades to listen to the beat of many different variations of rock music. The music lovers serving behind the bar and providing music and cold drinks all grew up here. You could say – they started their careers as regular guests before becoming our DJs. Quite a few of those who curiously stuck their heads around the door became guests. And when the door opens, you are always surprised how bright it has become outside. Seems like the gnome is having a lot of fun, right?

Destroyed by bombs – rebuilt with wine

The "Lindenwirt" opened in 1927. It was the second wine tavern to open in Drosselgasse after the "Drosselhof". The boom in Drosselgasse was originally triggered by the construction of the Niederwald monument. However, it slowed down considerably during and after the First World War. In the 1920s, an increasing number of guests started returning to Drosselgasse, and more and more innkeepers wanted a piece of the cake. At Whitsun 1949, the hotel and wine tavern "Lindenwirt" was reopened and is still managed by the Ohlig family, who have now been running it for three generations.

DARWIN'S DAUGHTER

Soon also here in the Drosselgasse: DARWIN'S DAUGHTER
Sanja and Bato – the guardians of beautiful treasures

In the world of beautiful things, as a duo, they always stay on the right track:

Sanja and Bato are a couple and business partners who are constantly on the look out for and share a love for anything special. Before joining the beautiful collection at DARWIN'S DAUGHTER, an item has to be discovered, critically considered and, ultimately, deemed to be sufficiently special by the couple. And this is something that Sanja and Bato are really proud of in their very successful shop.

DARWIN'S DAUGHTER on an exciting voyage

All of Darwin's voyages were about discovery. Like DARWIN'S DAUGHTER, too. But looking for completely different discoveries.

While her famous father did research, observed nature and collected exhibits in order to develop great theories, his little daughter travelled and discovered the world with open eyes, enjoying places and moments and being surprised by everything beautiful. Fine fabrics, gorgeous jewellery, delicate bowls, artfully crafted furniture – all of which were so much more exciting than her father's dried beetles and preparations. But best of all, her suitcases were also so much bigger and filled with surprises when she finally landed here …
